Dr Camille Tooth
Head of Research in Sports Medicine and Science, Liroms
Camille Tooth, PT, PhD, is a sports physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, and researcher in sports medicine and science. She obtained her PhD in Movement Sciences from the University of Liège (Belgium) in 2022, with a thesis focusing on the assessment of the sporting shoulder. She also holds a Master's degree in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Liège and a University Degree in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Lille.
She is currently Head of Research in Sports Medicine and Science at the Luxembourg Institute for Research in Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Science (LIROMS) and serves as Scientific Coordinator of the ReFORM network (Réseau Francophone Olympique de la Recherche en Médecine du Sport), an IOC Research Centre bringing together five institutions across Europe and North America. Through these roles, she coordinates multinational research projects, fosters international collaborations, and contributes to the development and dissemination of evidence-based practices in sports medicine.
Alongside her research activities, Dr Tooth has extensive clinical experience as a sports physiotherapist. She worked for several years with the Belgian Swimming Federation, providing medical support to both the national team and the "Future Team", and has collaborated with numerous sports federations and clubs in Belgium, including tennis, handball, volleyball, and rugby. Her clinical expertise focuses on injury prevention, rehabilitation, return-to-sport decision-making, and athlete performance optimisation.
She previously served as Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Activity and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Liège, where she was involved in teaching, supervision of master's students, and research training.
Her research interests include injury prevention in general, shoulder biomechanics, return-to-sport after injury or surgery, safeguarding and mental health. She has secured several competitive national and international research grants. Currently, she serves as Associate Editor for the Journal de Traumatologie du Sport and Isokinetics and Exercise Science, act as a reviewer for numerous leading international journals in sports medicine, and actively contributes to several national and international scientific organisations and professional societies.
