TABLE TENNIS HEALTH PROJECT
The team leads a research programme dedicated to the health and performance of competitive table tennis players, carried out with the China Table Tennis College Europe (CTTC-E) and a network of national and international partners. The programme combines laboratory testing and field data collection.
What we do
Sport-specific testing
Together with the Luxembourg Institute for High Performance Sports (LIHPS) and the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Tennis de Table (FLTT), LIROMS has developed a test battery tailored to the real demands of table tennis. Carried out at the SportFabrik facility, it combines complementary tasks such as agility tests or cognitive tasks with table tennis robot.
These tasks are instrumented with force plates, three-dimensional motion capture and eye-tracking technology, allowing the team to study movement quality, load distribution and visual strategy, and to build objective performance and movement profiles for players.
Epidemiological follow-up
The second part of the project concern the health problems experienced by competitive players. Using an anonymous online questionnaire based on the internationally validated OSTRC-2 tool and IOC guidelines, it records injuries, illnesses and mental-health complaints over a 12-month period, together with their impact on training, competition and performance.
The questionnaire is embedded in a large-scale international study and disseminated across Luxembourg, Belgium and beyond (including during major European competitions) giving a rare, athlete-reported picture of what players experience across a full season.
Our aim
By bringing these two strands together, the project aims to strengthen prevention, medical follow-up and athlete care in table tennis, and to move towards a combined, long-term system for monitoring both performance and health, from youth to elite level.
